How to select: U-Joints are used to connect shafts, so the joint end must be matched with the shaft end. Both ends of this universal joint are DD, which means they can only be applied to DD shafts. For vehicle steering systems, it means both shafts from the steering intermediate shaft and steering column/steering box must be DD shafts (double D shafts). Splined end shaft, smooth end shaft and other styles are NOT applicable.

About U-Joints: U-joints are used to connect two shafts that have a high amount of misalignment. When choosing a U-joint, consider the amount of misalignment as well as the speed (rpm) and torque the joint will need to transmit. The top U-joint connects the intermediate shaft to the steering column, and the lower U-joint connects the intermediate shaft to the steering rack.
